Christoph Mäder is new vice-president of economiesuisse
The Board of economiesuisse has elected Christoph Mäder, President of SGCI Chemie Pharma Schweiz, as Vice-President of the Swiss economic umbrella organization. In so doing, economiesuisse recognizes the steadily growing economic significance of our industry and is rewarding our continual efforts to further strengthen Switzerland as a centre for innovation.
Unrealistic CO2 law encourages relocation of production abroad
The reduction in emissions of 20% demanded by the councils, and this exclusively with domestic measures, is unrealistic. The companies in our industry are prepared voluntarily to reduce their CO2 emissions until 2020 by 20% relative to 1990. However, the CO2 law must allow for a mix of measures both at home and abroad. In addition the companies should be able to decide for themselves, whether they wish to adhere to the European emissions trading scheme ETS or stay with the Swiss mix of measures.
The law on research involving humans will strengthen Switzerland as a centre for research
The attraction of a research venue depends essentially on the formulation of the framework conditions with regard to research on humans. With this proposed law on research involving humans, the approach to this subject will be unified for the first time throughout Switzerland. The draft bill creates the balance between the freedom for research and the protection of the participants in the studies and strives for simpler and speedier procedures for the approval of clinical research. A unique Swiss register of clinical studies should not be pursued.
Greater transparency and competition in health care
SGCI Chemie Pharma Schweiz makes an essential contribution to the development of the "Health policy guidelines" of economiesuisse. From the point of view of our industry, liberalized framework conditions which demand innovation and rewards are a central requirement towards easing the pressure of costs in basic health insurance. In health care, a transparency of competition must be created. This can only be achieved if the benefits and the quality of medical services are measured and the results made public.
More competition in the energy market
With the updated position paper "More competition in the energy market" the requirements of the chemical-pharmaceutical industry in the area of energy are reinforced. SGCI Chemie Pharma Schweiz takes up a consequential market economy approach and, in addition to the replacement of the nuclear energy plants, requires a total revision of the electricity supply regulation.
A strategy for quality of the Swiss agricultural and food sector
Our industry welcomes the aim of the strategy for quality, based on which the competitiveness of the Swiss agricultural and food sector is to be secured long-term in times of opening markets. The abandonment of genetically modified organisms postulated in the guidelines in the case of plants, parts of plants, seeds and animals capable of propagation is, in fact, not justified and holds the danger of disadvantageous consequences for industry active in agricultural production means. For this reason a strategy for quality worked out by the Federal Office for Agriculture should be reviewed in the interests of an innovative and future-oriented producing industry.
