Strong boost for Swiss industry: US tariffs fall to 15 per cent

Such a reduction will provide clear relief for the chemical, pharmaceutical and life sciences companies affected in Switzerland. The US is one of the most important markets for our industries.

Predictable and open trade relations are crucial for Switzerland's innovation-driven industries. We expressly welcome the diplomatic efforts of the Federal Council. The ball is now in the court of Parliament and the cantons. We hope that the negotiating mandate will be approved quickly and that talks with Washington will begin soon."

The rapid implementation of the announced tariff reductions creates investment security and further strengthens international competitiveness. We also welcome the fact that the existing exemptions from US additional tariffs, including pharmaceuticals and certain chemicals, will remain in force unchanged.

In addition to these positive developments in foreign policy, it is also important to strengthen Switzerland as a location for production, research, employment and business in terms of domestic policy. Unnecessary regulations that place an additional financial burden on companies should be consistently avoided. Legislative proposals with potential additional burdens must be critically examined and, if necessary, revised. At the same time, targeted relief measures are necessary to ensure the long-term competitiveness of the Swiss economy.
