scienceindustries General Assembly 2025

On Friday, 23 May 2025, the 143rd General Assembly of scienceindustries took place at Takeda Pharma in Zurich. Around 140 participants from politics, business and science attended the event, which focused on innovation, sustainability and strengthening Switzerland as a business location.

A special moment: After seven successful years in office, Dr. Matthias Leuenberger handed over the presidency to Dr. Annette Luther. In his address, Federal Councillor Dr. Albert Rösti underlined the importance of the sector for Switzerland: “Without the pharmaceutical, chemical and life sciences industries, Switzerland would not be the country we know today.”

With Annette Luther, an experienced industry leader takes over the chairmanship of our association. At the same time, Prof. Dr. Andreas Bohrer, General Counsel and Company Secretary at Lonza, was appointed Vice President by the Board. Newly elected to the Board were Pascal Bürgin (Bayer), Dr. Lutz Hegemann (Novartis), and Alexander Salzmann (Sandoz). These new appointments reflect continuity, expertise and the strategic development of our association.

In terms of content, the General Assembly set clear priorities in economic policy: Our association reaffirmed its commitment to technology-neutral regulation, strong market access and the promotion of sustainable innovation — for example in areas such as CCUS, genome editing and chemicals policy. Our association will continue to serve as a strong voice for the chemical and pharmaceutical industry, both nationally and internationally.
